Ville Collaborative University 2017

The VCU hosted a summer camp for five weeks starting July 5th, 2017.  The students learned new things and had fun at the same time.  SJ4A coordinated and scheduled each venue and provide chaperons.  Each field trip began in the morning and ended in the afternoon (lunch was provided).

The field trip on July 7th was the beginning of five fun learning adventures.  The students and chaperones had fun at Laumeier Sculpture Park learning about the sculptures and making seed bombs.

A great learning experience was had by all on July 14th at the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum on the campus of Washington University.  The tour included in depth information on four pieces.  Each piece was very unique from the others and gave everyone a glimpse into the vast world of art.  After the tour and lunch the students and chaperones were able to create a ‘self portrait’.

On July 21th the trip to the zoo was fun, but VERY hot.  We toured River’s Edge and learned about elephants, hippos, hyenas, cheetahs and more.

On July 28th there were two field trips in one.  The first was a visit to the St. Louis Mounted Police Stables in Forest Park where the students were able to pet and brush one of the horses.  They also learned what is involved in caring for the horses.  After lunch the next stop was the Civil Rights exhibit at the History Museum.  The students learned facts about some of the major players who stood up for the civil rights of black Americans.  They learned about the Jefferson Bank protests along with songs that were sung during the protests.

On August 4th we visited the Butterfly House in Faust Park.  There was a lecture and slideshow followed by a visit into the tropical conservatory.  After lunch some the students chose to go back inside the conservatory instead of playing on the playground.
